This is the journal for my novel 'The Butterfly Hunt'... it's the story of a Medievalism-obsessed girl in the long summer holiday before starting university, encountering the angst of first love, and learning the lessons of life and her body, art and the fragility of nature.

Does that sound cheesy? Well, the reason why I'm posting it here is because I can't be bothered to edit it for submission to prospective agents... so it's of more a fic really. And that's what the internet's for... ;-)

And not just that, but it's about a fic-writer in a way. Liz, our pashernate protagonist, loves Mills & Boon novels, but when she attempts to write one, she finds herself penning an Arthurian romance Mills & Boon-style fic.

It also features a section influenced by The Divine Comedy song 'Your Daddy's Car'...

The novel itself evolved out of the first few chapters of a joke I wrote for one of my friends when we did Medieval literature as undergrads. I decided to write an Arthurian tale in the style of Mills & Boon for a laugh. But I remained fascinated by it, even though it wasn't serious... so I wove 'The Butterfly Hunt' around it to keep it company.

This is just a jolly little diversion which I thought I might share with you for the summer. ;)
